It is Malaysia Day today!

Malaysia Day is a holiday that the Malaysians will be enjoying starting September 16th 2010 every year. This was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last year. His cabinet ministers took the decision to celebrate Hari Malaysia. It has been decided that September 16th will feature activities that will foster the spirit of oneness in Malaysia. As such it will be a day when celebrations will be at galore.

History of Malaysia Day

Let us peak into the history of Malaysia to know about Malaysia Day. Malaysian Federation was established on September 16th, 1963. Earlier, it was decided that the Malaysian Federation would be formed on June 1st 1963. However, the date was postponed. It finally took place on August 31st 1963, which also happens to be the day of Hari Merdeka, the National Day of Malaysia.

As there was opposition related to different issues in the formation of Malaysia, it was further delayed until September 1963. Finally, the formation of Malaysia took place when the Malaysia Bill was introduced in the Malayan Parliament in the month of July 1963.

Significance of Malaysia Day
